Updates to the Principal Residence Exemption Bill

Updates to the Principal Residence
Exemption Bill

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Principal Residence Exemption, also known as PRE, is a bill introduced to help individuals who may suddenly inherit property and are not prepared to pay a higher tax bill.

Treasurer Julie Brixie said, "The principal residence exemption change is suggested to waive the loss of the principal residence exemption in the case of a relative inheriting a home that they don't plan to live in and that they are trying to sell."

This is a fairly minor suggested change and will positively affect the people it applies to, said Brixie.
