Okemos Shows Heart in 23-13 victory Over Lansing Everett

OKEMOS - Okemos traveled a few miles to the west to take on Lansing Everett Friday, September 12th.

Okemos, coming off a devastating 36-34 loss at the hands of Grandville, took a few minutes to get back in the groove of things.

Lansing Everett drove down the field early in the first quarter with ease. A quarterback sneak by Everett's Lane Porter, put Lansing in the driver's seat.

Okemos would answer with a drive of their own highlighted by Linebacker and Running Back Kome Johnson's big gain.

The drive culminates with a bulldozing dash by Johnson into the end zone. A fake extra point attempt lulls Everett into a sense of security when place holder and quarterback Grant Klaver drills wide receiver Mitch Kaczmarek in the numbers. Warning: this would not be the last time these two connect.

8-7, Okemos at the end of the first.

Into the second, the Chiefs showed their muscle in the red zone. The vikings could move the ball into scoring position, sure, but each time they would arrive, the Okemos D would greet them with a hit in the mouth. Stop after stop kept Everett scoreless in the second.

Defensive End Malcolm Williams put an exclamation point to the resiliency with a series-ending sack.

The inspiring defensive effort would prove contagious to the Okemos offense.

As the first half drew to a close, Okemos takes one last shot to enhance its lead. As the clock strikes zero, Quarterback Klaver escapes and dances around the pocket until he rifles a shot of hope into the end zone. Low and behold Wide Receiver Kaczmarek comes out of nowhere with a magnificent grab!

Okemos still not satisfied go for two again. Quarterback Klaver fakes and runs away from the masses in search of his man Kyle Krumm in the end zone.

The Chiefs never look back and win this one 23-13. They go back home to face Grand Ledge Friday, September 19th at 7pm.
