LANSING - The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign started August 15th and will continue through September 1st.

Extra officers will be out across 40 counties in Michigan doing drunk driving and seat belt patrols while vacationers hit the road one last time this summer for the Labor Day holiday.

The Highway Safety Planning team linked up with the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association to distribute spoof beer lists from the fictitious Traffic Safety Brewing Company to nearly 1,200 of their members across the state.

"our main goal is to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries across the state and we know that people don’t heed our warnings. Last year in Michigan so 2013 there were 354 people who died in alcohol or drug related crashes so our goal is to reduce that number to make sure everybody has a safe holiday and whether its an enforcement deterrent or a funny message that helps you designate a sober driver. We hope that everybody celebrates safely," said Melody Kindraka, Communications Coordinator for the Michigan Office Of Highway Safety Planning.

This is the first year that the Highway Safety Planning team will be introducing the fictitious Traffic Safety Brewing Company.

Table tents will sit on a bar or restaurant table that has safety messages, such as "Call a Cab Cider" and "Designated Driver Dark". The team hopes this campaign will urge driver to make safe decisions.
