$1600 Made at the Meridian Senior
Center Rummage Sale

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Senior Center held its 6th Annual rummage sale fundraiser in June.

“I was just looking at events online, and this is my first time. I’m going to test the scene, I see some games over here I’m going to check out in a minute,” said Mark Collins Ingham county resident.

When previous fundraisers weren't doing well, Cheri Wisdom came up with a more profitable idea.

“I said lets try a rummage sale, because people were always asking me if we’d take donations for their stuff and I was like well why don’t we start taking these donations, and you know start having a rummage sale,” said Wisdom

The purpose of the rummage sale is to not only get rid of and find hidden treasures, but the $1,600 made in proceeds goes towards many things at the Meridian Senior Center, one being discounted memberships.

“The proceeds are used here at the Senior Center. We use them for scholarships for people who can’t afford to pay for a memberships. Secondly we use the money to help with the cost of special events that we have, like the volunteer lunch in that we do every year. We also have special holiday dinners and lunch-ins that we host, and it helps offset the cost of those, and then we also use it for like some of out exercise classes that are fee based. We will use it to offset the cost that to keep it down for our members,” explained Wisdom.
