Lansing Lugnuts Take on Bowling
Green Hot Rods in a 4 Game Series

LANSING - It's been an up and down season for the Lugnuts as they now stand 34-39 overall and have went 2-2 since the all star break.

The Lansing Lugnuts faced off against the Bowling Green Hot Rods in a four games series at Cooley Law School Stadium. Weather was an issue for the beginning of the series but after some work from the grounds crew and hardy fans, everyone including the Lugnuts, were ready to play ball.

With the second half of the season still wide open the organization is excited to get another shot at the playoffs. Derrick Loveless, an outfielder for the Lugnuts talked about starting the second half of the season off properly.

"I really think our team is one of the better teams in the league. Our record may not show it but I think talent wise when we start clicking together we are going to be tough to beat," said Loveless.

The Lugnuts dropped the first game of the series with the Hot Rods scoring 10 runs on 15 hits.

Friday's night game was a wet one that got a late start. Despite the weather fans still made it out to the game and The Lugnuts didn't let victory slip from their gloves this evening as 30 year old knuckleballer Frank Viola had batters completely off their game. Viola moved to 2-0 on the season and finished the game with 1.15 ERA on 5 innings pitched. Lansing won the contest 8-3. To top off the resurgent victory, all the loyal fans who sat through the weather saw a brilliant post game fireworks display.

The Saturday game unfortunately didn't go in Lugnuts favor as the Hot Rods took the series lead 2-1 with a 4-3 victory in front of a crowd of over 6 thousand.

The Sunday finale was a good one as it was also bark in the park day at Cooley Law. Fans and their pups filled the stadium to watch the Lugnuts even the series out 2-2 with an impressive 5-4 win.

After a one day break, the Lugnuts resume with a 3 game home series with 1st place West Michigan on Wednesday, June 25.
