MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Thinking of going away on a long vacation, but concerned about the safety of your home? The Meridian Township Police Department offers a service that will put your mind at ease.

The option for a "Vacation Check-In" is available to residents in the Township. If someone wishes to have their house occasionally observed while they are on vacation, they can apply for this service through the police department. If the officers find anything suspicious or concerning, the owners of the house will be notified immediately.

In addition to the actual check-ins by police officers, the department also provides residents with a list of tips to give their home the appearance of being occupied; making it less susceptible to burglars.

A few of these tips include:
>Secure all doors, windows, pet entrances, and garage doors
>Set timers on lamps and televisions to illuminate your house at night
>Keep curtains or blinds open to maintain a normal appearance
