MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Plans to renovate a Meridian Township shopping center were presented at Tuesday's Township Board meeting.

The Carriage Hills Shopping Center revitalization project committee held a private meeting on May 7 to identify the best design plans from students at MSU's School of Planning, Design and Construction.

Partners including DTN, the School of Planning, Design and Construction, area residents, the Meridian Township Economic Development Corporation, and Township Board members were asked what they hoped to see in the future shopping center.

The results, which were presented at the meeting, included the addition of new businesses and user friendly features such as benches and sidewalks.

"Folks want some form of a grocery store along with some of the user services that used to be there, pharmacies, coffee shops, bakeries, dry cleaners, all those kind of things that make a community viable," said Carriage Hills resident William Anderson.

Project partners now plan to use the data they collected at the meeting to start working with property managers, the EDC and Township Board to figure out the best way to proceed.
