MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A public art sculpture was dedicated in Meridian Township today with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the roundabout on Marsh and Hamilton Roads.

The nearly 14 foot tall stainless steel sculpture titled, "Meridius Prime" was installed within the roundabout in March. However, Meridian Township staff said they wanted to wait until the weather improved to hold a formal event.

"We had a selection committee ask for public art proposals and they were all quality submissions," said Peter Menser Meridian Township Associate Planner.

The sculpture which depicts a compass was thought to best represent the history of Meridian Township back when the area was divided into a number of townships said Menser.

Art sculptor Tim Higgens and members of the Meridian Township Board of Trustees spoke a few words before the ribbon cutting.

The art installation was made possible by a Public Art for Communities Grant from the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP).
