Don't Be A Bystander

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - For Sandra Phillips, a typical day in her life involves getting up, getting her daughter ready for school and work, going to work, and playing with her daughter Haley and the dog.

Phillips is also the 30410 troop leader, a group of brownies from Rayla and Murphy elementary schools in Haslett.

While the girls sell cookies like all girls scouts, these group of girls wanted to do something different.

"As a troop, we were to choose something we felt would help other girls in our community, and bullying came up, and every girl in the room raised their hand and said they experienced some sort of bullying," said Phillips.

The girls created anti-bullying signs to help spread awareness and learned to not be a bystander.

"I couldn't imagine what they have to go through as kids, I wouldn't want to do it again, that's for sure, what they must go through," said Phillips.

"One of things the girls learned is to not be a bystander, and if they see something, to report it, and to tell somebody about it."
