Non-Motorized Use in Land Preserves

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Many Residents have recently been contacting the Township Board in regards to the Red Cedar Glen Land Preserve.

The land preserve is about a fifteen acre plot acquired by the Township in 2006 for almost a half a million dollars,

Julie Brixie, Township Board Liaison on the Land Preservation Advisory Board said, “we decided to allow bicyclists on the Red Cedar Glen for a one year trial to see how non motorized travel effects the preserve.”

Brixie explained, “The land preserve sits right along an east, west route that is a very important connection to provide for non-motorized transportation. People will have to go all the way up Dobie, to Grand River, then down Van Atta, just to get around the preserve if they aren't going to follow the rules and bike or walk thru the preserve.”

At this point the Land Preservation Advisory Board is trying out non-motorized transportation, allowing bicycles on the Red Cedar Glen Land Preserve.
