Changes to Aldi Grocery and
Apartment Complex Plans

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Board recently discussed building plan changes to a new development with three buildings looking to make home in Meridian Township.

An Aldi grocery store and two apartment buildings are in the process of discussing their shared property setting in an attempt to reduce destruction of wetlands with shared parking.

The Eyde Apartment Building Company is requesting a Special Use Permit from the Township Board because their multiple story building would be greater than the 25,000 sqft. allotment.

Aldi grocery representatives were asked by the board to consider adding more bicycle racks and environmentally friendly fixtures and features as well.

"Technically our ordinance would require approximately 12 bicycle parking spaces based on all parking. They (Eyde) are providing about 20 spaces so they can reduce the overall number on the site," said one Aldi representative.

The three buildings are set to be built off Marsh Road. A final vote on the special use permit and more is likely to happen at the next Township Board meeting on February 18th.
