MSU Hockey Defeats American
International 4-0

EAST LANSING, MI - Coach Tom Anastos and his Spartan Hockey team took on American International College Sunday for their second game of the weekend.

MSU controlled play for much of the first period, but couldn't manage to generate many high quality opportunities.

Mackenzie MaCeachern found the back of the net early in the second, sparking the MSU offense.

Captain Greg Wolfe scored on a power-play shot midway through the second to bring the MSU lead to two.

MSU turned up their physical attack and maintained their offensive push with MaCeachern scoring his second of the night before Joe Cox finished off a pretty passing play from Dean Chelios and Michael Farantino.

The Spartans would hang on to their lead, winning the game four to nothing, and helping goaltender Will Yanakeff earn his first shutout of the season.

After the game Coach Anastos said that his team improved on their fundamentals.

"There were things that certainly showed growth, and that's a good thing," Anastos said.

The Spartan power-play was a still a topic of concern as the MSU is only 3 for 33 with the man advantage so far this season.

"We have people in front of the net and as soon as we getting shots through we're going to see more goals," said Captain Greg Wolfe.

Coach Anastos talked about Wolfe's role as the focal point on the power-play and the need to find the right combinations to capitalize with the extra man.

"We're just trying to find the right parts in the right place," he said. "Can you surround him with some parts to put him in a spot that maybe he might be best, and if you can't then you move him to another spot. But, you start by looking at who might be the best five players in this situation then you gotta see how do they work together to kind of bring it together."

MSU went 2-0 this weekend bringing their season record to 3-3.
