A Solution to the Rising Deer Population

A Solution to the Rising Deer
Population

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This upcoming fall will mark the third year of the deer management program. The program started by the Meridian Township Parks and Recreation Department invites licensed hunters to hunt on approved Meridian Township properties to bow hunt white tailed deer.

The program was started in 2011 but was increased last year when the more hunters to participate and increased the number of Township approved lands that could be hunted.

There will be 20 properties involved in the hunt this fall. 5 will be parks and the rest will be mostly land preserves. Private land owners can participate in a match program, where they can be matched with a licensed hunter who would hunt deer on their property.

Last year's total during the harvest was 91 deer. The parks department is upping their efforts to encourage hunters by writing letters to the approved hunters.
