PEG Programming

UPDATE: OKEMOS - The Okemos Channel isn't your typical TV station at a local high school.

"We're very unusual in a school system because there is not a TV production class, we're essentially a glorified club," said Matt Ottinger, Telecommunications Coordinator at Okemos Public Schools.

"What we do primarily is present the things that are going on in the school district. That would be something as innoccuious as a second grade musical performance or a high school orrechstra performance or football games or basketball games or plays and concerts and so forth," said Ottinger.

The Okemos Channel is just one of many public educational government programming in Michigan also known as PEG.

"They get a chance to work with cameras, they get a chance to create their own programming, they get a chance to work individually and with a group so its a a marvelous benefit for them," said Ottinger.

But the channel faces challenges, like spreading the word about their work.
