Meridian Township Tackles Medical Marijuana Ordinance

Meridian Township Tackles Medical
Marijuana Ordinance

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Since the passing of the legislation on medical marijuana in the State of Michigan in 2008, the responsibility of regulating it locally has been one the Meridian Township board has taken on, continuously addressed and debated.

One of the board's major concerns are associated with the location and zoning of the various medical marijuana dispensaries, caregivers and growers, said Meridian Township treasurer, Julie Brixie.

"Board members are not interested in seeing dispensaries located near schools or in residential neighborhoods. And although the law doesn't allow dispensaries, we want to make sure that we're in a position to have an ordinanace on the books in case legislation is introduced that would allow them.", Brixie said.

According to Treasurer Brixie, the township board is not exactly interested in eliminating the entire existence of dispensaries altogether but simply setting adequate limits in the all round best interest of it's residents instead"
