Complete Streets Ordinance Presented to Board

Complete Streets Ordinance Presented
to Board

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township is another step closer to having safer and more convenient streets and paths.

The township board was recently presented with a draft of an ordinance regarding the 'Complete Streets' initiative. A steering committee made up of residents and township staff members conducted surveys and public workshop in January to gauge what residents wanted to see in the ordinance.

"This is not only a health benefit, but also it has to do with energy efficiency," said Gail Oranchak, the principal planner in the township.

Because if you can encourage more people to ride bikes or walk to places, then we're cutting down on the amount of vehicles that are on the road."

The township board is expected to adopt the final version of the ordinance at the September 18th meeting.
