Nexus Academy in Okemos

UPDATE: OKEMOS - Imagine a virtual high school combining face to face instruction and online courses.

"I wouldn't want to be glued to a computer all the time when I'm in school. I'd probably wanna talk and deal with other people," said Jonathan Davis, student at Career Quest Learning Center.

"Seems like they have more opportunities to branch out in their classes," said Ray McNamara, college student.

Some think it's the high school of the future.

"We do not have any bells, we do not have hallways, we do not have lunch lines, we do not have down time. We have 4 hours of on campus instruction," said Douglas Greer, Leader of Nexus Academy of Grand Rapids.

The Nexus Academy is a charter high school opening up this fall in Okemos, and it breaks away from the traditional high school curriculum.

"It's a blended method. The blend is we incorporate a highly technical platform as well as face to face and one on one interaction with our students," said Greer.

The school will open its doors September fourth with the hopes of enrolling 150 to 300 students this fall.

"We'll follow the school calender that's been established by the intermediate school districts and we follow alot of the calender issues that go on," said Greer.

"The courses that students will have an opportunity to enroll in are skill based courses that is the online curriculum will align you at your skill level," said Greer.
