UPDATE: EAST LANSING - Michigan State University is increasing tuition next year by $420 for the typical full-time in-state student and one student raises his voice for his concern.

Jacob Steinman is a sophomore at Michigan State University majoring Engineering. Just like most other college students, he is taking classes and working part time for the summer.

Raised in Flint, Jacob and his sister are both true Spartan fans and he is thankful that his parents are supporting his education. However, things will change for Jacob for this upcoming year.

The MSU Board of Trustees passed the plan of $1.1 billion 2012-13 operating budget that includes 3.5 percent tuition increase for undergraduates and the plan was passed by 7 to 1.

"I have to take out loans and I don't have to pay it now but eventually I have to pay back. We raise tuition all the time," Jacob said.

There isn't many details on why tuition was raised but affected students like Jacob demands to know the reason.

Besides MSU, several universities such as University of Michigan- Ann Arbor, Central Michigan University, and Ferris State University raised their tuition for upcoming year.
