Senior Citizen, Recreation, Human
Services Millage Renewal

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On August 7th, residents will have the opportunity to now only vote for candidates but for local millages. One millage up for renewal in Meridian Township is the Community's Services Millage.

The Community's Services Millage was passed in 2002 and it supports the Meridian Senior Center operations, part of Meridian Township's Parks & Recreation program and the Human Services Department in the Township.

For the senior center, the millage majorly supports the staffing. In the Parks and Recreation Department, the Township offers adult and youth sports programs to have a positive impact in the community as well as to engage people making the feel part of something.

Human Services Specialist Darla Jackson says, "what I do is I work and connect people who are in need of human services people who have financial needs such as evictions and those needs in the community."

The millage is expiring at the end of this year and it will be up for a renewal but there will be a small addition of .05 mill that will be dedicated to the Meridian Senior Center.

According to the director of Parks and Recreation LuAnn Maisner, if the millage is passed, the average resident in Meridian Township living in a home with a Taxable Value of $100,000 will pay about $15 a year in taxes to support the three services.
