Fire Consolidation Study

Fire Consolidation Study

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township is one of six communities in the Lansing area looking to combine its fire department resources.

The fire consolidation study involves fire departments from the cities of Lansing and East Lansing, and the townships of Meridian, Lansing and Delhi. The study was conducted in order to identify opportunities for shared services among the departments.

It revealed many recommendations for a variety of issues including emergency response times, reducing operational costs and increasing efficiency.

"Our next step is to share this information with our township board members and let them ask questions and discuss it and from there both the fire chief and myself will participate those discussions," said Jerry Richards, Township Manager.

Part of those discussions will include the short and long term recommendations of the study and how much participation Meridian Township will be involved in.
