City Center II Project

City Center II Project

UPDATE: EAST LANSING - The City of East Lansing voted to approve a pre-development agreement recently for the long awaited City Center II project.

If you’ve been anywhere near East Lansing in the last few years, you’ll recognize this abandoned eyesore.

The plans for it are pretty grand--a $105 million plan that includes a hotel and a performing arts theatre.

However, there seems to be a lot of confusion about what’s going to happen next.

“The pre-development agreement is this period of time where it’s the developers responsibility to get all those documents to us,” said East Lansing Mayor, Diane Goddeeris.

These documents will prove that the developer, Strathmore Development Co., has the funding to complete the project, and according to Goddeeris, East Lansing City Council will have someone independent checking those numbers.

"We’re not going to be rushed on this. We’re going to take our time. If we choose to go forward," said Goddeeris.

It’s important to understand that the only thing the developer can do at this point is to demolish the smaller building, which used to be a bank. It’s owned by the city and the developer is doing it at his own cost.
