CATA Announces New Fixed Route Service

LANSING MI. - CATA, Capital Area Transportation Authority, held a press conference on July 11 to discuss the new major route implementation.

Beginning August 30, the route will bridge Lansing neighborhoods, McLaren Greater Lansing, and East Lansing/Michigan State University.

This new route will be known as route 18, The Capital City Crosstown, and is the first major route implementation since August of 2018.

CEO of CATA, Bradley T. Funkhouser said, “The Capital City Crosstown will connect Lansing to Michigan State, East Lansing, and when fully constructed McLaren directly.”

Route 18 was created to meet needs within the community. Through communication with the community, CATA was able to see where transportation was needed.

“This was inspired by Lansing neighborhoods. They have a shared vision and this is a shining example of effective public outreach,” Funkhouser said.

Public outreach by Lansing neighbors gave CATA a clear vision of what community members desired. Affordable crosstown transportation providing improved access to East Lansing and MSU.

McLaren Greater Lansing worked with CATA to secure a good route system to the hospital. This was a very important priority for both ends off this collaboration to provide good public transportation to communities

Mayor of Lansing, Andy Schor, “I am excited that we are attaching this to McLaren and the new hospital. Not only will it allow people to get there from Mt. Hope corridor, but it will allow people to live here in our community, where they want to be, and get to work.”

In partnership with the City of Lansing, City of East Lansing, Michigan State University, and Mclaren Greater Lansing, CATA’s Route 18 will help connect transportation between these areas.
