OKEMOS, MI - On Tuesday, July 6, Land Stewardship Coordinator, Emma Campbell, held the first Trailside Ecology Tuesday. Giving others the opportunity to learn about and explore local ecosystems while educating them about native plants and the wildlife and insects that depend on them.
Trailside Ecology Tuesdays will be held on the first Tuesday of each month and are meant to help educate others about local ecology and to spread awareness about the environment and its importance.
When asked why this type of event is important for the community Emma Campbell had this to say:
“These types of events are really just to get residents out and understanding, and forming a more intimate relationship with our parks and our preserves, and the native local flora and fauna that occur here. It is a way to gets residents and the community involved in caring so that they can start taking care of these places and doing stewardship out here”.
