Ingham County Health Department Updates Residents on COVID-19

INGHAM COUNTY, MICHIGAN - Distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine has allowed a sense of normalcy back into the lives of Michigan residents, and this does not exclude Meridian Township.

The efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 reached another milestone on May 12 when the CDC announced that everyone 12 years of age and up is eligible for the vaccine. These precautions, along with mask wearing and social distancing, has allowed Meridian Township buildings to re-open for the public.

To continue protecting the safety of others, the public is asked to wear their masks at all times in the Township buildings, unless they are exempt individually. Members of the public are also instructed to stop at the security desk upon entry to the Municipal Building in order to maintain social distancing requirements.

Although Township buildings are open, it is still encouraged that residents use low contact and digital forms of assistance when possible. All non-essential visitors are asked to avoid entering the Township buildings.

As of Tuesday, June 8, 24,814 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ingham County. 146 of these cases were reported in the past week.

Residents who have not received the vaccine can now be provided with an accurate COVID-19 test within 1-2 days. The Ingham County Health Department and LynxDx teamed up to create a drive thru testing site for the community at the Human Services building in Lansing. These tests are completely contactless and use saliva instead of a nose swab.

The drive-thru tests are pre-registration only and available Monday-Thursday, 10 am to 4 pm, at 5303 S. Cedar Street in Lansing. Patients are asked not to eat or drink anything 30 minutes prior to testing.
