Meridian's Elected Officials are Sworn-In For Another Term
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The newly elected officials for Meridian Township's Park Commission and Township Board were sworn-in to their new office on Friday, Nov. 20 over Zoom. This includes the Township's Trustees, Clerk, Treasurer and Supervisor as well.
The new officials were sworn-in by 30th Circuit Court Judge Wanda Stokes.
“You represent us, and that’s no small task,” said Stokes. “Your conduct will be a credit or discredit for Meridian Township.”
Many of the officials sworn-in were previous members of the Township Board, including Trustees Patricia Herring Jackson, Dan Opsommer, Kathy Ann Sundland and Courtney Wisinski. Treasurer Phil Deschaine and Supervisor Ron Styka have also been sworn-in for another four-year term as well.
“Thank you to the voters. Thank you to the residents for supporting all of us, for showing that you realize that we are working hard for you, and for putting us here for the next four years,” said Styka.
“We’ve taken these oaths today under a very challenging year,” Deschaine said. “Each of us here today have a lot to be hopeful about for the next four years."
The newest member of the Board was also sworn-in to her new position Friday morning. Deborah Gutherie is now Meridian Township’s new Clerk.
“I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get to work,” said Guthrie.
Park Commissioner Mark Stephens was sworn-in for another four-year term. Park Commissioners Amanda Lick, Mary Nardo Farris, Michael McDonald and Ami Van Antwerp were not present for the Zoom meeting and will be sworn-in at a later date.
