Crowd Chant 'Lock Her Up' at Trump Rally in Lansing

LANSING - President Donald J. Trump visited Lansing Tuesday afternoon for a rally at Capital Region International Airport. Trump, along with other Republican leaders, spoke at the rally.

Both candidates have been campaigning in the battleground state. Former Vice President Joe Biden visited Southfield and Detroit two weeks prior. Trump also visited Muskegon during the same week.

During the rally Trump said that, “We’re up 3 in Michigan...and I think we're up a lot more.” But a poll from the New York Times indicates that Biden has a 9 point lead in Michigan. Until 2016, Michigan had voted for blue since 1988.

Michigan is an important state to both candidates. Biden has campaigned more in Michigan than Hilary Clinton did in 2016. Trump won Michigan by roughly 10,000 votes.

Although the event was outdoors, many people were not wearing masks or social distancing. There have been people who have been infected with COVID-19 as a result from attending a Trump Rally in other parts of the country.

As of October 26th, there have been over 227,000 deaths related to COVID-19 in the U.S. The combination of flu season and coronavirus have created fear about there being a second wave of coronavirus.

There have been over 7,000 deaths in Michigan and continue to rise. During the rally, Trump criticized Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for her handling of the pandemic. He called her a “disaster” because of her lockdown restrictions.

Vice President Mike Pence will also be visiting Flint this week. Pence will be at the Flint-Bishop International Airport at 7:00 pm on October 28th. Doors will open starting at 5:00 pm.
