Governor Gretchen Whitmer Announces Pollution Prevention Week Initiative

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Governor Gretchen Whitmer proclaimed this week in Michigan as Pollution Prevention Week.

“Michigan’s natural resources are important to our families, our environment and our economy, and it is important we all do our part to prevent environmental pollution that could harm our beautiful state,” said Whitmer.

The purpose of this proclamation is to draw attention to the many ways people can take care of the environment. Some examples of this could be recycling and reducing the use of toxic substances or waste.

“I find it easiest to recommend eco-friendly practices I use myself,” said LeRoy Harvey, the Meridian Township Environmental Programs Coordinator. "Riding a bike, maintaining or insulating my home, driving an efficient vehicle, ecological landscaping, and enjoying nature and local trails are some of these.”

The Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy will help businesses, communities, and environmental professionals learn how to implement environmental regulations specific to them in order to protect Michigan’s environment.

“We are discovering that our health and the health of our environment are interwoven,” said Harvey. “We can’t help or hurt one without impacting the other.”
