Memorial Golf Outing to Honor Okemos Student

WILLIAMSTON, MI - On Sunday, August 23rd, the Adam D. Nevells Memorial Fund held its 11th Annual Memorial Golf Outing & Dinner at the Wheatfield Valley Golf Course, located at 1600 Linn Road in Williamston, to remember Adam who tragically died in a car accident in 2009. The event began at 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a total of 10 teams golfing and eligible to win prizes, and everyone in attendance was treated to a dinner of their choice.

The Adam’s fund has provided more than $38,500 total in scholarships and grants to the Okemos community and the areas Adam held most dear; Academics, Music, Athletics, Boy Scouts, and his Church (OHS Band & Athletic Boosters, Boy Scout Troop 125 and Martin Luther Chapel youth programs).

Mike Nevells, the father of Adam Nevells, as well as the co-founder of the Adam’s Fund spoke with HOMTV about the support he has gotten from the community to honor Adam’s memory, “It was an out-pour to the community to do something and people were sending in checks and doing things. We thought all of those were great tributes but had an expiration date, school boards and wrestling mats wear out. Our church Martin Luther Chapel uses the community foundation and our paster recommended them and was through the Lansing Community Foundation that we set up the memorial fund. All the donations we get go into the fund and we use the interest each year to fund the scholarships, and Adam’s Fund will live on perpetually.”

Nevells added, “A tragedy like losing a child is something that people have said countless times that they weren’t sure they could survive it and don’t know how we’re doing it too, and we couldn’t have without our community. Even after 11 years this isn’t something that goes away and it’s like it happened yesterday. I can only say thank you to all our neighbors and friends in our community, it’s just wonderful.”
