Bikers Cycle Their Way Into This Year's DALMAC Bike Ride Tour

EAST LANSING - On August 29th, residents gathered at the Michigan State University Pavilion in East Lansing, to participate in the 49th annual DALMAC Bike Ride Tour.

DALMAC stands for Dick Allen Lansing to Mackinaw and was originated in 1971, when former State Representative Dick Allen, tried to prove that bikes and cars could share Michigan roads safely.

The DALMAC Fund, established in 1975, has granted over $1.5 million to promote bicycling in Michigan through bicycling activities and safety and educational programs.

Participants had the option to choose from multiple routes with 2 to 5 day options. One of the routes started in East Lansing.

Former DALMAC Director, Joel Wickham, assisted this year's Director and described how grateful he is towards the program and how it has helped the community.

"We donate all the money we make back to the bicycle infrastructure in the State of Michigan."

Many residents volunteered for the event including Bob Pena, a resident of Lansing, who has been living in the area for 35 years. At the event, Pena welcomed participants to have their pictures taken to remember the event.

Bikers will continue on this four-day route through cities like Alma. The route will end in Mackinaw City this Sunday, September 1.
