Unofficial 2019 August Special Election Results

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The polls are closed and the voters have spoken. The unofficial results for the August 2019 Special Election are in. The results for the two Meridian Township ballot proposals are as follows:

CATA Redi-Ride Millage Renewal: PASS
Yes- 4,487 (63.12%)
No- 2,622 (40.28%)

Street Improvement Bond Proposal: PASS
Yes- 4,250 (59.72%)
No- 2,866 (40.28%)

With the passing of the CATA Redi-Ride Millage, Meridian Township residents can expect to see the service around for at least another five years. The millage will also be reduced from its previous 0.2 mills to 0.19. The township is expected to collect $360,756 of revenue in the first year after the passage of this millage.

With the passing of the $35 million Street Improvement Bond Proposal, residents can expect to see consistent funding over a 10-year period to improve the townships 147 miles of local roads. The improvements would take the roads Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating (PASER) score from its current average of 4.48 to an 8 or “good condition.” Residents can expect to see a tax increase based on their property value.
