ID The Missing Event in Lansing

LANSING - As of now, there at 314 known unsolved unidentified remains cases in Michigan.

In an effort to reduce that number, an ID The Missing Event was held at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

On Friday June 14th, family members were welcome to submit DNA samples to help locate their missing loved ones.

The Office of the Medical Examiner, Michigan State Police, Sparrow Hospital as well as Sparrow Forensic Pathology, and the National Missing And Unidentified Persons System came together to host the event.

Human Remains Analyst Hanna Friedlander said that their goal is to help at least one family.

"What we’re trying to do is set up an event where people can come report loved ones missing, file a police report if they have not already done so and if they have, they can follow up on their report, see what's been done, see if any new information can be given to help the law enforcement agency in charge on the case," said Friedlander.

She said that families can also donate a DNA sample which will be processed and uploaded to a national database.

Michigan State Police Sgt. Sarah Krebs explained how important these events are for locating missing persons.

She said, "We hold multiple events like this across the state every year and we have solved over a 100 cases of missing persons and unidentified remains because of them."

A total of four families came to the event in hopes of locating their missing loved ones.
