Township Board Denies Giguere Homes Rezoning

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Township Board's vote on a resolution to deny Rezoning Petition #18080 (Giguere Homes) has come after lengthy discussion between residents near the parcel of land, the Township Board and the applicant, Mr. Giguere.

The denial was passed 6-1, with Trustee Kathy Sundland being the lone "No" vote.

Rezoning Petition #18080 was a request to rezone approximately 7.36 acres from RR (Rural Residential) to RA (Single Family-Medium Density) at 3760 Hulett Road, near the Sanctuary Neighborhood.

The resolution to deny doesn't keep the land from being developed but does cap the amount of homes that are to be built on it which will remain at 7 homes.

Trustee Phil Deschaine was one of a few board members who spoke their opinion on the subject, he said.

"I had hoped that mediation would work.  It was my suggestion, I suggested it in fact right on the heals of the Walnut Hills mediation and we did come to find a mediated agreement that both sides could live with.  Neither one were happy about it but neither one were completely crushed by it either, so they moved forward.  However I do believe that the RR rezoning is appropriate for this plot and allows for 7 homes to be built and for that reason I'm going to vote against the rezoning that's been applied for by the developer."

Residents near the parcel were worried that the difference in population density would hamper the natural, quiet feel of the area and make accessibility in and out of the neighborhood a issue.
