Okemos Student in Custody After Bringing Gun to School

OKEMOS - Meridian Township Police have taken a Chippewa Middle School student into custody after he brought a handgun to school.

Police were told that the handgun was shown to other students. There was no indication of any threats being made. The incident occurred on June 4 and the information was reported to the school at approximately 5:00 pm.

Police made contact with the student at his residence. Based on information received by police, the subject was lodged at the Ingham County Youth Center.

The school was notified of the recovery of the weapon and custody of the student. The investigation of this case is ongoing.

Meridian Township Police and Okemos Public Schools were not available for interview at the time of this article's publication, but have asked that anyone with information about this ongoing investigation contact the police department at 517.853.4800 or anonymously through social media.
