Meridian Township Determines Interim Police Chief

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Board has determined who will replace current Police Chief, Dave Hall, once he retires.

Township Manager, Frank Walsh, proposed Captain Greg Frenger to fill the position and it was approved by the Township Board at their meeting on April 17th.

Captain Frenger has been with the Township for 26 years and this role will begin on June 29th at 5 pm.

Frenger will be getting paid $50.09 an hour, the same as Chief Hall makes an hour.

Manager Walsh didn't want to hire a person who is seeking a full-time position in order to level the playing field for those interested in the chief position.

"I really trust Greg a lot and, more importantly, his fellow officers trust him," Walsh said. "He has great reputation, not only in our department, but among the law enforcement in the region."

Captain Frenger will return to his current position and pay of $36.27 an hour once a full-time Chief is hired.
