Grand Re-Opening: Michigan Women's Historical Center & Hall of Fame

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On June 10, 1987, the Michigan Women's Historical Center & Hall of Fame celebrated it's Grand Opening in a small house in Downtown Lansing. Now, thirty years later the Michigan Women's Historical Center & Hall of Fame is celebrating with its grand re-opening.The big event took place on June 10, 2017, exactly 30 years after it's grand opening.

With the new location being in Meridian Mall, it allows for the Historical Center & Hall of Fame the opportunity to not only expand but to also enhance. With a determined mindset and plan, the Michigan Women's Studies Association Board have come up with ideas to bring the facility to new heights.

"We have new exhibits that we want to design for the center that focuses on Michigan women's history that are more dynamic, more engaging, have more technology, and just basically makes women history normal, and part of the narrative," explained Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame Executive Director, Caitlyn Perry Dial.

During the grand reopening, people were able to take a sneak peek at the new design concepts and layouts, enjoy a wide a wide array of snacks and appetizers, and hear from guest speakers ranging from the President of The Michigan Women's Studies Association to Former State Representative Joan Bauer. All the while being able to shop and browse the unique and handcrafted gift shop, located in the center of the Historical Center & Hall of Fame.

"Our gift shop features a lot of fair trade items. We have jewelry made from women in Guatemala, Nepal, India, several places that people can come and buy," said Historical Center & Hall of Fame Docent, Annescia Dillard.

The Michigan Women's Historical Center & Hall of Fame is free and is open to the public, while admission is complimentary. A $5 suggested donation is accepted upon entrance.
