Meet Opener

HASLETT - Haslett coed track defeated Waverly High School, 86-51, in the CAAC Red first dual meet on Tuesday night.

The cold sensation and windy weather made it difficult to stay warm and many of the athletes had blankets, but that did not stop the close finishes.

The Warriors took the first four spots in the 100-meter for the men’s competition, and also the first spot in the women’s.

Waverly senior Eric Johnson got a time of 11.5 seconds and senior Olivia Maxwell got a time of 13.38 seconds.

"In our league we have dual meets on Tuesdays so you get a chance you know, all the kids get to run, we try to put kids in where we can, you know maximum of four events but we try to put them at least in three or four based on what they're involved in. So you know, it gives a chance for all our kids to compete," said head coach Charlie Otlewski.

In the 200-meter, Waverly senior Alex Owens and sophomore
Maya Garrett crossed the finish line first, with times of 23.7 and 27.87 respectfully.

As for the 400-meter it was a split.

For the men’s competition, the Warriors took first place with junior Denzel Ray with a time of 54.78 seconds.

Haslett senior Rachel Hamilton placed first with just over one minute and nine seconds.

The Warrior girls took home the win for both relay categories.

The Warrior boys won two relays, while Haslett won the other two.

In the men’s competition, Haslett took first place in shot put (12 lbs), discus (1.6 kg), pole vault and long jump.

Waverly won the high jump and both hurdle heights and distances, the 110-meter 39-inch and the 300-meter 36-inch.

For the women’s events, the Vikings took both the hurdle runs – 100-meter 33-inches and 300-meter 30-inch –, two categories of relays, discus (1 kg), high jump and pole vault.

The Warriors took the long jump, shot put (4 kg) and two categories of relays.

Adding up all the points, Haslett came out on top with 86 points, while Waverly stayed behind at 51.
